There’s something just rediculously hypnotic about watching animated facial rigging. Words like uncanny valley and dead eye syndrome get tossed around, as well as micro expressions, but no one can deny that you just can’t look away.
The one in the video above is pretty amazingly well done. I would have loved to see it animated to see how it holds up.
The video below is by the same company using a somewhat older rig. The goal of this one is to capture facial motion without the use of a bunch of markers glued to your face.
This one, by a company called Faceshift uses a kinect sensor. While it is lower quality, their intended target might be different (lower poly count for gaming and stuff)

Just to drive home how far we’ve come, I had to include this iconic footage of one of the earliest facial animation rigs.
