Kinect compatible apps soon to hit Windows Store | TechnologyTell

While I, personally, haven’t had the opportunity to play around with the Windows Kinect motion sensor, I’ve seen it in action and it looks quite fun. When it comes to gaming on an Xbox, who doesn’t like voice and full-body gesture control? But now, Microsoft is taking things to the next level with its latest SDK 2.0 for Kinect v2 sensors. Soon, we’ll see Kinect-compatible apps in the Windows Store.

Microsoft Kinect healthWhether you’re a developer or someone who wants to take a peek, the Kinect SDK 2.0 is available as a free download with no fees. As a developer, you’ll be able to make and commercially deploy Kinect apps in the Windows Store. As a consumer, you’ll be able to look forward to connecting your Kinect to Windows tablets and PCs. This is going to bring entirely new experiences with app interfaces and user interaction.

Microsoft has already released a standalone Kinect for Xbox One as well as a Windows adapter. Purchasing each separately puts the price on par with the existing Kinect for Windows v2 sensor. Some companies have already taken advantage of the latest SDK 2.0, with apps already in the Windows Store.

The YAKiT app lets users create animated videos – complete with audio – just from photos. The 3D Builder app makes scanning everyday objects to create 3D renderings for printing a piece of cake.

This is just the start of it too. Who knows what kind of awesome apps or games will come about and put the Kinect v2 sensor to great use.
